Know Your Risk of Lung And Colon Cancer!

Recent scientific research shows greater than 90% survival rates, when cancer is detected before it spreads to other organs. Later detection reduces those survival rates to less than 10%.

Lung cancer

This deadly disease is characterized by the growth of one or more malignant tumors within the lung tissue, which then spread to nearby tissues and other distance organs of the body when left untreated.

In the early stages, most symptoms of lung cancer shows no clear indication that the lungs are affected. As a result, majority of lung cancer patients find out too late when the cancerous growth has spread from the original site to distant organs of the body. Only 16.8 percent of people diagnosed with lung cancer in the United States make the 5-year survival mark. The numbers are far grave inother parts of the world.

Risk: Smoking,Prolonged exposure to tobacco smoke is the leading cause of lung cancers, around 80 to 90 percent of the time. But even non smokers have a 10 to 15 percent chance of acquiring pulmonary carcinoma, possibly due to the combination of hereditary factors and exposure to lung irritants, secondhand smoke, and air pollution.

Colorectal Cancer

"Colorectal cancer develops in the colon or rectum, both parts of the large intestine. It is the third deadliest cancer known to man. 1.4 million cases of colorectal cancer were reported in 2012 and claimed an additional 700,000 lives in the same year. There is still hope for recovery if malignant tumors are limited to the walls of the colon. But if the cancer has spread throughout the large intestine and neighboring body parts, it is unlikely to be treatable."

Risk: "Colorectal cancer is largely caused by an unhealthy lifestyle and increasing age. Diet, obesity, lack of physical activity, and smoking are the four biggest contributing factors to this malady. If you do not want to develop bowel cancer, stave off red and processed meats from your diet. It is also recommended that you limit your alcohol consumption." .... (source: Yahoo health )
